  • The importance of working with laboratory animals and ethical principles in biomedical research
  • Behavioral and cognitive tests in animal models: from assessing anxiety and depression to memory, learning, and decision-making
  • Disease modeling in rodents; interventional tools including optogenetics, chemogenetics, and lesion studies
  • Neuroimaging and neural recording methods in animal models

Practical Modules:

  • Training in various types of injections and drug administrations in laboratory animals
  • Training in different blood collection techniques
  • Training in anesthesia, analgesia, and pain management methods in laboratory animals
  • Introduction to Paxinos Atlas and brain stereotaxic coordinate mapping in rats
  • Training in stereotaxic surgery principles, electrode implantation, and intracranial cannula placement
  • Training in catheterization surgeries for venous and arterial access, and identification of accessible anatomical sites
  • Training in several other common surgical procedures in biomedical research
  • Principles of transcardial perfusion, brain extraction, and fixation techniques
