Scaling Limit for Microscopic Models

Abstract:
Many phenomena in nature are described microscopically
with the aid of deterministic and stochastic models. These models
often
involve many parameters and are hard to analyse precisely. However,
after a suitable scaling, we may pass to a limit and obtain a
macroscopic equation that involves only a small number of
parameters. In these lectures I give several examples of the
relationship between the microscopic world and macroscopic
equations.
