Abstract: We review historical movements from critical phenomena towards renormalization group and conformal field theory. We as well provide physical insight about parameter running in RG flow for the simple Ising model. We then observe how representation theory of conformal field theory provides a proper spectrum of fixed points of RG flow and review its connection to empirical observation through the central charge. We finally try to work out the central charge of nonrelativistic conformal algebras.
