Abstract: The international team running the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS1) announced the first results in its search for dark matter on April 3rd. They report the observation of an excess of positrons in the cosmic ray flux. In this talk we present a short review of the experiment instrument and discuss the results in the context of particle and astrophysics.
