Weekly Seminar
Spin Squeezing and the Quantum Phase Transition in Spin-1/2 Chains
Dr. Saeed Mahdavifar

Date : Wednesday , December 13, 2023
           14:00 - 15:00

Description
Spin squeezing is a quantum phenomenon that reduces the quantum uncertainty in one component of the collective spin of an ensemble of particles with a spin. The quantum states obtained are called spin-squeezed states. Such states have been proposed for quantum metrology, to allow a better precision for estimating a rotation angle than classical interferometers. A coherent state is a quantum state that has the minimum quantum uncertainty allowed by the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, and it has a symmetric distribution of the quantum fluctuations in both components of the collective spin.
In this talk, we show new findings on spin squeezing in 1D systems of interacting spin-1/2 particles at zero temperature.
