A novel global charge conservation in the symmetric phase of the early universe

PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS

Abstract:

In the Standard Model at high temperatures, anomalous effects contribute to the violation of baryon number (B) and lepton number (L), separately, while B?L remains conserved. There are also corresponding changes in the helicity of the hypermagnetic field (h) and the Chern-Simons numbers of the non-Abelian gauge fields (NCS,W and NCS,S). In this study, we investigate a baryogenesis process in the symmetric phase of the early Universe by taking into account the Abelian and non-Abelian anomalous effects as well as the perturbative chirality-flip processes of all fermions. We calculate explicitly the time evolution of all ...

Computational Immunology and the Adaptive Immune System: From Exploring Data to New Insights

School
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

At its core, the adaptive immune system grapples with a profound question: What is self, and what is non-self? This distinction underpins its ability to defend against pathogens while avoiding harm to the body s own tissues. When this delicate balance falters, it manifests in pathologies like autoimmunity, where the immune system attacks the self, or cancer, where altered self-cells evade detection. Computational immunology strives to decode the vast data generated by the immune system, unraveling its complexity through algorithms, models, and visualization. This interdisciplinary effort, spanning biology, AI, mathematics, and medicine, not o ...

Combinatorics Via Hodge Theory

School
MATHEMATICS

This will be an expository talk on how algebraic geometry and more specifically Hodge theory have helped to prove some longstanding conjectures in combinatorics and the theory of matroids. These are the results of June Huh, Karim Adiprasito, Eric Katz, Petter Branden, and many more. These results earned June Huh his 2022 Fields Medal.
