School PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS Abstract: Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) are important quantities that describe the distribution of momentum and spin of quarks and gluons inside a proton. The determination of PDFs is crucial for precision tests of the Standard Model and for making predictions for high-energy collider experiments. Gegenbauer polynomials are a set of orthogonal polynomials that can be used to parameterize PDFs. These polynomials are solutions to a second-order differential equation, and they depend on two parameters: the degree of the polynomial and a constant known as the Gegenbauer coefficient. By fitting the experimental data with a co ... |
