| 11:00 - 12:00 Journal Club: Experiment & Phenomenology – meeting FPGA & its application in LinkBoard System Upgrade Phase II for CMS Muon Detector School PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS Abstract: Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are semiconductor devices that are based around a matrix of configurable logic blocks (CLBs) connected via programmable interconnects. Due to their reconfigurability, vast realtime processing capabilities, and embedded high speed serial IOs, FPGAs are selected as the target devices in “LinkBoard System Upgrade Phase II for CMS Muon Detector”. We have a brief look at the FPGA structure and its capabilities for data acquisition. In addition, some challenges of using FPGAs in this project are discussed.
