13:30 - 15:00 Weekly Seminar (Online) Blackholes unveiled: from quasinormal scillations to shadows https://www.skyroom.online/ch/soa/weekly-seminar School ASTRONOMY Abstract: From the observational point of view, blackholes (BHs) appear in a wide variety of astrophysical environments, and there is wealth of direct or indirect evidence pointing towards the existence of supermassive black holes (SMBHs). In fact, it is believed that SMBHs reside in the center of most sufficiently massive galaxies, including ours. It is also believed that the result of gravitational collapse is a Kerr BH. However, I’ll explain the concept of the generalized blackholes and explain their two most important observational imprints, namely quasinormal oscillations and shadows. For the quasinormal oscillations we study the ... 14:00 - 15:00 Weekly Webinar Quantification of viscoelastic properties using contact resonance atomic force microscopy with U-shaped probes School NANO SCIENCES Quantification of viscoelastic properties using contact resonance atomic force microscopy with U-shaped probes Abstract: Contact resonance atomic force microscope (CR-AFM) methods are relatively new measurement techniques used to quantify the elastic and viscoelastic properties of numerous materials such as polymers, elastomers, metallic glasses, asphalt, and biological materials. More recently, AFM thermalevers have been developed to allow local heating of samples, although they have much more complex resonances. These U-shaped probes have one distinct advantage over rectangular AFM probes, in that specifi ... 15:30 - 17:30 Mathtematical Logic Weekly Seminar In Search of Higher Forcing Axioms School MATHEMATICS Classical forcing axioms such as Martin s Axiom, the Proper Forcing Axiom and Martin s Maximum have been very successful in settling not only foundational set theoretic questions such as the value of the continuum, but also solve some important mathematical problems not decidable in ZFC alone. Examples are Kaplansky's conjecture on automatic continuity in Banach algebras and Whitehead s problem in homological algebra. These axioms give a fairly complete picture of the first uncountable cardinal, $aleph_1$, but they do not say much about higher levels of the cumulative hierarchy. Higher forcing axioms is a research project which attempts to li ... 16:00 - 17:30 Theoretical Neuroscience Journal Club Online Title: Modulation of Sensory Response by Locus Coeruleus Noradrenergic System School COGNITIVE SCIENCES Organized by: School of Cognitive Sciences to receive the link to join online, please send email to theoretical.neurosci.ipm@gmail.com Abstract: Locus Coeruleus (LC) noradrenergic system has widespread projections throughout the brain and affects sensory processing in various modalities. Inhibition of both spontaneous and sensory-driven cortical activity is well documented in early experiments by either LC electrical micro-stimulation or local application of norepinephrine (NE). However, the temporal profile of the LC modulation of sensory response is not well-established. Here, we recorded ne ... |
