As advances in nanoscale physics made it possible to trap and manipulate single electrons in the laboratory, it has become relevant to ask whether it is possible to realize these topological features at a single-electron level. We present a study on the spin texture of an electron and show that an inhomogeneous magnetic field can turn the spin texture into a spin vortex. An analytical relation between the phases of the asymptotic eigenfunct ... 14:00 - 15:00 Combinatorics and Computing Weekly Seminar Derandomizing parallel bipartite matching School MATHEMATICS School of Mathematics, Niavaran Bldg., Niavaran Square, Tehran, Iran 14:00 - 16:00 Seminar How attention prepares the sensory neural system for fluctuative information processing, via Theta phase alignment School COGNITIVE SCIENCES Abstract: Venue: School of Cognitive Sciences, Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM), Opposite the ARAJ, Artesh Highway, Tehran, Iran on map * To join the mailing list: Send an empty email to: scs at ipm dot ir on the subject of: #join ... 15:00 - 16:00 Weekly Seminar Search for FCNC interactions at the colliders School PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS Within the Standard Model (SM), Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) transitions only occur at loop level and are strongly suppressed due to the Glashow Iliopoulos Maiani (GIM) Mechanism. On the other hand, it has been shown that several extensions of the SM are able to relax the GIM suppression of the FCNC transitions due to additional loop diagrams mediated by new particles. As a result, the observation of any excess for these rare decays would be indicative of indirect effects of new physics. In this talk, some proposed methods to search for FCNC interactions at the LHC and the future colliders will be discussed. Larak ... 16:00 - 17:00 Mathematics Colloquium Algorithmic Human Development versus Algorithmic Machine Learning School MATHEMATICS Driven by gigantic profits, a stunningly huge amount of human intellect, resources and funds are now devoted globally by governments and tech giants to make programmes and machines more intelligent, a quest which has had by now a mesmerizing impact on the global scientific and technological communities and on humans in general. In comparison, there is almost no effort in today's world to develop protocols that can effectively increase emotional and social intelligence and creativity in human beings. Yet, it is precisely the enhancement of these three traits, uniquely defining our species, which is vital to enable us to tackle the grave ecolo ... |
