11:00 - 13:00 Theoretical Neuroscience Journal Club Hierarchical Organization of Neural Networks School COGNITIVE SCIENCES Venue: School of Cognitive Sciences, Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM), Opposite the ARAJ, Artesh Highway, Tehran, Iran ... 11:00 - 12:00 Computational Nanoscience journal club Dielectric properties of graphene/MoS2 heterostructures from ab initio calculations and electron energy-loss experiments School NANO SCIENCES ielectric properties of graphene/MoS2 heterostructures from ab initio calculations and electron energy-loss experiments High-energy electronic excitations of graphene and MoS2 heterostructures are investigated by momentum-resolved electron energy-loss spectroscopy in the range of 1 to 35 eV. The interplay of excitations on different sheets is understood in terms of long-range Coulomb interactions and is simulated using a combination of ab initio and dielectric model calculations. In particular, the layered electron-gas model is extended to thick layers by including the spatial dependence of the dielectric response i ... 12:15 - 13:30 Analysis Seminar $G$-$C(X)$-algebras and Strongly Self-absorbing $G$-$C^*$-algebras School MATHEMATICS In this talk, I discuss unital separable $G$-$C(X)$-algebras whose fibers are $G$-equivariantley isomorphic to a fixed strongly self-absorbing $G$-$C^*$-algebra, where $X$ is compact metrizable space and $G$ is a second countable, locally compact Hausdorff group. I first review some motivations for studying strongly self-absorbing $C^*$-algebras and strongly self-absorbing $G$-$C^*$-algebras in the Elliott classification program of $C^*$-algebras. Then I explain an equivariant version of Choi-Effors lifting theorem as an essential tool in this work. Finally, the main results concerning $G$-$C(X)$-algebras whose fibers are $G$-equivarian ... 13:30 - 15:00 Weekly Seminar The important role of dwarf galaxies in understanding the Universe School ASTRONOMY Dwarf galaxies are the most numerous type of galaxies and studying them is a crucial part of our quest for comprehending the Cosmos. In addition, they can be used as test beds for studying galaxy formation models and even fundamental physics such as the debates between dark matter hypothesis and its alternatives (e.g. MOND). In my talk, I will present a broad overview of my research on these extragalactic objects using both observations and cosmological simulations. Two main parts of this talk will be: 1) on a correlation between bulge mass of disk galaxies and the number of their dwarf satellites as a possible challenge for dark matter galax ... 14:00 - 15:00 Weekly Seminar Computational modeling of ion separation and water flow through carbon-based nano-membrane School NANO SCIENCES Computational modeling of ion separation and water flow through carbon-based nano-membrane The lack of sufficient available freshwater resources is one of the most important problems in our world. Reverse osmosis (RO) desalination is one of the promising methods of membrane technology in freshwater production by removing salts and mineral from saline water. The research projects on designing the high-performance membranes (high water permeability and high salt rejection rate) were carried out, usually can be divided into two main categories; the membrane structure and the physical/chemical properties of membrane. In this sem ... 14:00 - 16:00 Seminar Cortical Microcircuit Mapping: Electrophysiological profiling of Neocortical Neural Subtypes School COGNITIVE SCIENCES Abstract: Venue: School of Cognitive Sciences, Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM), Opposite the ARAJ, Artesh Highway, Tehran, Iran on map * To join the mailing list: Send an empty email to: scs at ipm dot ir on the subject of: #join ... 15:00 - 16:00 Weekly Seminar Modified gravity one-loop partition function School PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS The one-loop partition function of the $f(R,R_{munu}R^{munu})$ gravity theory is obtained around AdS$_4$ background. After suitable choice of the gauge condition and computation of the ghost determinant, we obtain the one-loop partition function of the theory. The traced heat kernel over the thermal quotient of AdS$_4$ space is also computed and the thermal partition function is obtained for this theory. We have then consider quantum corrections to the thermodynamical quantities in some special cases. Larak Seminar Room |
