12:00 - 13:15 Analysis Seminar A Glimpse of Coarse Structures: From Metric Spaces to Noncommutative Spaces School MATHEMATICS Coarse geometry studies geometric objects from a large scale point of view. Indeed, in the setting of coarse geometry two spaces are identified if they look the same from afar. For instance, if one looks at a big ball from a far enough distance, the ball looks like a point, or as another example the space of integers looks like the real line from afar. In this talk, we will first discuss about coarse maps on metric spaces and then we will talk about course structures in general. In particular, the topological coarse structure associated to a paracompact locally compact Hausdorff space with a given compactification will be introduced and as ... 14:00 - 16:00 Theoretical Neuroscience Journal Club Instantaneous Modulation of Gamma Oscillation Frequency by Balancing Excitation with Inhibition School COGNITIVE SCIENCES Venue: School of Cognitive Sciences, Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM), Opposite the ARAJ, Artesh Highway, Tehran, Iran ... 14:00 - 15:00 Weekly Seminar Magnon-polaron transport in magnetic insulators School NANO SCIENCES Magnon-polaron transport in magnetic insulators In this talk, we discuss a theory for non-local spin transport through magnetic insulators that treats the coherent magnetoelastic interaction on equal footing with incoherent relaxation processes. In particular, our theory is able to describe the formation of magnon-polarons, hybridized spin and elastic waves, near an interface where spin is injected into the magnetic insulator. Our theory is based on the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation coupled to stochastic equations of motion for the lattice displacement. We show that though magnon-polaron formation causes anomal ... 14:00 - 15:00 Weekly Seminar Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics Group Magnon-polaron transport in magnetic insulators School PHYSICS Seminar Room (classroom A), Farmanieh Building ... |
