14:00 - 16:00 Weekly Seminar The Neural Code and Faithful Conduction by Axons School COGNITIVE SCIENCES Abstract: "Most studies of the nervous system consider axons as conductors of action potentials, assuming that the signal pattern initiated in the soma or axon is faithfully conducted to the terminals where synaptic release occurs. Most axons, however, do not conduct action potentials with a fixed delay. The action potential delay depends on the prior short- and long-term activity of the neuron. In this talk, I will explore the biophysical mechanisms underlying the history-dependence of action potential conduction delay, using experimental recordings and computational modeling. I will then examine how neuromodulators such as dopamine ... |
