10:00 - 11:00 Computational Soft- and Bio-materials group biweekly journal club Energy Conservation as a Measure of Simulation Accuracy School NANO SCIENCES Energy Conservation as a Measure of Simulation Accuracy Energy conservation is widely used as a measure of accuracy for molecular simulations. When reporting rates of energy drift, researchers usually assume it is linear in the simulation length, temperature, and system size. We study these assumptions and find that all three are incorrect. Energy drift is too complicated to characterize with a single number, and a more sophisticated analysis is needed to identify the effects of systematic versus random drift, and of integration error versus numerical error. We further argue that energy conservation is not a reliable measure ... 11:30 - 12:30 Quantum information biweekly journal club Irreversibility and correlations in coupled quantum oscillators School NANO SCIENCES Irreversibility and correlations in coupled quantum oscillators We investigate the link between the irreversibility generated by a stationary dissipative process and the correlations established within a composite quantum system. We provide two equivalent expressions for the entropy generated in the non-equilibrium steady state of coupled quantum harmonic oscillators that allow for a simple interpretation of the onset of irreversibility. We then unveil a quantitative relation between the entropy production rate and correlations, both total and quantum, built between the two oscillators. In the small-coupling limit, the entro ... 14:00 - 15:00 Combinatorics and Computing Weekly Seminar Multi-games for decision making in multi-environments School MATHEMATICS School of Mathematics, Niavaran Bldg., Lecture Hall no. 1 ... 14:00 - 15:00 Weekly Seminar Design and fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cell using zinc oxide nanostructure School NANO SCIENCES Design and fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cell using zinc oxide nanostructure Design, fabrication and characterizing dye sensitized solar cell based on one dimensional (nanowires, nanotubes) zinc oxide (ZnO), new structure of hetrostructure MWCNT/ZnO nanowire arrays as a photoanode, and using multiwall carbon nanotubes as replacement for pt as expensive electrode are the main purpose of this research. Growth of ZnO nanowire was investigated through two methods including chemical vapor transport and condensation (CVTC) and chemical bath deposition (CBD) on different substrate. Morphology, crystal structure and photolumin ... |
