  Abstract:
New type of symmetry for the Rayleigh equation is found. For small Atwood numbers an analytic solution is obtained for a smoothly varying profile. The spectrum of unstable modes are defined. It is shown that a finite width transition layer can undergo a stratification. aA velocity shear between new-formed sublayers tales place. The external magnetic field makes stable some definite modes from the spectrum.
