Derivative Interactions in Cosmology: A Systematic Approach

ASTRONOMY

This talk will start with a brief introduction to the so-called "in-in" formalism. We show how we use the action principle to calculate n-point functions of cosmological observables. Afterward, we will move on to less trivial models with derivative interactions. We present a systematic prescription for calculating cosmological correlation for models with derivative coupling through path-integral formalism and compare it with the "in-in" formalism results. To this end, first, we say some words on how we perform conjugate momentum path integral -- that is a non-trivial task for the theories with derivative couplings. We show that the effective ...

Permutation Codes and Their Applications

School
MATHEMATICS

Permutation codes are considered to be used in many different applications such as flash memories, DNA storage and power-line communications. We briefly introduce rank modulation for storing data in flash memories. The first order errors in flash memories that uses rank modulation can be model by adjacent transpositions. The Kendall-tau distance between two permutations is defined as the minimum number of adjacent transpositions that is needed to transfer one permutation to the other one. In order to be able to correct one error of the first order type in flash memories, we need to encode data into permutation codes that have at least minimum ...

Abstract:
Strong correlations in Mott insulators induce a substantial charge excitation energy known as the Mott gap. In this talk, we discuss how the Mott gap is affected by long-range antiferromagnetic ordering upon reducing the temperature below the Neel temperature. Our finding is that the Mott gap is increased by the magnetic ordering: a magnetic blue-sh ...

Spectra and Definability

Maximal almost disjoint families, maximal cofinitary groups and maximal independent families are among the combinatorial sets of reals, which are central to the study of the set theoretic properties of the real line. In this talk, we will discuss recent developments regarding the possible cardinalities of such extremal sets of reals, as well as their definability properties.
