Abstract:
The emergence of flexible information channels in brain networks is a fundamental question in neuroscience. Understanding the mechanisms of dynamic routing of information would have far-reaching implications in a number of disciplines ranging from biology and medicine to information technologies and engineering. In this work, we show that the presence of a node firing at a higher frequency in a network with local connections leads to the reliable tran ...

ASTRONOMY

I will breifly give an introduction about bubble nucleation. Then I will review our recent work which is the nucleation rate of a bubble around cosmic string. In this case the nucleated bubble forms in a rugby- shapped ball. Then the effect of cosmic string tension on the nucleation rate will be investigeted. We will show that it enhances the vacuum decay rate. ...

Femtosecond pulse laser, generation, manipulation & applications

Abstract:

Ultrashort pulses are one of the most important tools to investigate fast evolving processes such as electronic relaxations. Chirped pulse amplification (CPA) is a technique to produce ultrashort strong pulses. To produce ultrashort pulse with a continuous tunability or shorter pulse while keeping the pulse energy as high as possible, we built a noncollinear optical amplifier and a capillary compressor setup. Continuously tunable pulses at 490-650nm can be generated with a few miuJ energies in the nOPA. The spectral broadenings are ca ...

PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS

Abstract: Anomaly/outlier detection is one challenging area in machine learning, especially for large datasets in high dimensions. How can one build a trap for a new type of animal if one knows nothing at all about that animal?
We have explored a general anomaly detection framework based on dimensionality reduction and unsupervised clustering (DRAMA). This approach identifies the primary prototypes in the data with anomalies detected by their large distances from the prototypes, either in the latent space or in the original, high-dimensional space. In this talk, we will know more about the anomaly detection techniques and compare them ...

Recent Advances in Thermal Energy Harvesting-Conventional and Nanostructured Thermoelectrics

Abstract:

A thermoelectric generator is a solid-state device that converts heat directly into electricity. Thermoelectric technology has made significant progress in recent years, and its potential to reduce the environmental impact of electrical power generation is retaking worldwide attention. With the new stimulations of the research community in this area, thermoelectric research has been continued in two general directions: (1) theoretical models that predict the properties and offer superior materials and stru ...
