Conservation laws and evolution schemes in geodesic, hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic flows

PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS

Abstract: The conservation laws of relativistic hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics are derived by utilization of Hamiltonian formalism. In particular, it is shown that the circulation conservation laws, such as Kelvin, Alfven, and Bekenstein-Oron theorems, are special cases of the Poincare-Cartan integral invariant of Hamiltonian systems. Using this result, a strong version of Kelvin and Bekenstein-Oron theorems are obtained for non-isentropic flows. It is also shown that the flow of an isentropic perfect fluid is the geodesics of certain conformally related spacetimes.
