Polarization signal of a micro-lensed source star: its origin, its detect-ability and its advantages for detecting stellar astrophysical futures

School
ASTRONOMY

In a microlensing event, the circular symmetry of the source star is broken by producing the distorted images. It causes a net polarization signal whose amount depends on the scatterer species in the stellar atmosphere and the nature of the source star. The maximum amount of this polarization signal can reach to 0.6-0.7 per cent for early-type source stars which is potentially observable by FORS2/VLT. Measuring these polarization signals will help to study the source star surface and its anomalies, especially the ones make intrinsic (and probably very small) polarization signals, e.g. magnetic field, circum-stellar disks, stellar ellipticity, ...

Experimental investigation on the semiconductor micro/nanowire structures (Si, ZnO) for optoelectronic application

In this work, one dimensional silicon and zinc oxide nanostructures were firstly
synthesized and characterized. Then, the photoresponsivity of the fabricated
heterojunction ultraviolet photodiode was investigated. In the first section, silicon
nanowires(SiNWs) were fabricated by the cost effective metal assisted chemical
etching method and the effects of metal type and its thickness (gold and silver) and the etching time on the structural and optical properties were studied. The resul ...
